2008 Competition

Finals Five outstanding finalists performed March 29 before a panel of distinguished musician judges and a capacity audience at the Avalon Theatre in Easton, MD.  Finalists were selected by panels of distinguished musicians and educators from throughout the United States. Each ensemble is a winner by virtue of being selected from among applicants from all over North America and Europe.   At the final round of performances they were also heard by numerous presenters of concert series in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Judges for the Final Round were David Krakauer, clarinetist; Lydia Artymiw, pianist; and Marcy Rosen, cellist.  Click here for information  about these accomplished musicians and educators.

Award-winning Attacca Quartet to perform 3 mid-Atlantic Concerts in June

Attacca will perform at the 2008 Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival on June 6, for the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance in Chincoteague, VA, on June 7, and for the Candlelight Concert Series in Columbia, MD, on June 8.

Amy Schroeder, violin, Keiko Tokunaga, violin, Andrew Yee, cello, and Gillian Gallagher, viola, comprise the Attacca Quartet, 2008 Competition Silver Medalist and winner of the Grand Prize at the 2006 Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition.  All are students at the Juilliard School in New York.

OUR PURPOSE:

The Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition promotes emerging professional ensembles by opening the door to new performance opportunities and providing credentials of merit:

  • Gold Medal      $10,000
  • Silver Medal        5,000
  • Jury of distinguished musicians
  • Performance at three concert series
  • Consideration for additional performances

This international Competition is a biennial event funded through private contributions and grants.  The Competition offices are located in Easton, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.  The 2008 Competition drew 56 entries from the United States, Canada, Russia, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

The Competition is sponsored by the Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival  and is conducted with the assistance of an Advisory Panel of outstanding musicians and educators.
